Giclee Prints Available

The term “giclee print” indicates an elevated level of print technology that provides better color accuracy than more common color ink printers. The prints are typically created using 8-12 color ink-jet printers. One advantage to this is the quality and durability of the production. The other is that the artist can print the picture in many different sizes from the original digital file. I print with Archival Ink, using an Epson 3800 9 color ink jet printer and high quality acid free Fine Art Paper. Each image can be printed in any desired size.

Artistic Process

Playing with transparency in Photoshop has interesting results. The images in this gallery merge two different images, with the top layer being adjusted for transparency. The degree of transparency produces different results. In two images, I used pink flowers as overlays to a magnificent nut tree. The Cornell Plantations has a cement sculpture garden that was constructed as a student architecture project in the 60’s. The sculptures have aged and are surrounded by trees. All are magnificent. I photographed them and did some transparency studies with plants and flowers from the Cornell Plantations.

While in Arles, France, I photographed the buildings in the central square of the city. The grape arbor is superimposed over an apartment building, with attractive results. Spring flowers were abundant this year and provided a rich resource for layering flowers over bare tree branches and Cornell buildings. On a recent trip to NYC, I photographed St. Patrick’s Cathedral, making close up layers more transparent than full frame images. The entrance to the Forbidden City in Beijing was taken during a ceramic’s trip to China in 2006. Since Lotus flower is common in China, it seemed appropriate to use it as a transparency overlay. Travelers who attended the Olympics in 2008 have found this an appealing montage.

There are endless options for transparency studies. If you have a favorite subject, let me know and we can work together to produce a desired product.
