Giclee Prints Available The term “giclee print” indicates an elevated level of print technology that provides better color accuracy than more common color ink printers. The prints are typically created using 8-12 color ink-jet printers. One advantage to this is the quality and durability of the production. The other is that the artist can print the picture in many different sizes from the original digital file. I print with Archival Ink, using an Epson 3800 9 color ink jet printer and high quality acid free Fine Art Paper. Each image can be printed in any desired size. Click image for sizes and pricing. Artistic ProcessHaving grown up in a florist family, I wanted to have an extensive garden in Ithaca, NY. Although the yard is only 100 x 400 feet, it contains a lotus pond that is the size of a hockey rink. Each time the pond has been excavated, the soil was used to construct elevated berms for gardens. These gardens contain flowering shrubs, perennials, and annuals, with a focus on something in bloom during each part of the growing season. While tending the garden, I take pictures of flowers and leaves, with visions in mind for developing montages. The best time to photograph is when the sun is low, giving soft back lighting to the flower. When the sun is high the flower color tends to bleach out. Flowers or their parts can be photographed all year. Even in the winter the lotus pods can be very photogenic. Many of my travels include visits to gardens. Several of the montages in this gallery originated with flowers in the Cornell Plantations, and in the commercial landscape gardens of my brother in Schenectady. The images provide fond memories of the travels and a rich source for variety in my work. After I photograph the image, I transfer it to Photoshop, where I extract portions to arrange on the digital canvas. The montage is printed with archival ink on acid free high quality Fine Art Paper.
